The Legal Nurse Consulting Certificate Program now has an optional Clinical Internship Track, for
students enrolled in the certificate program.
Enrolled students may opt to register for and complete this module to gain internship experience.
Students will receive contact hours and college semester hours for successful completion of this
module.
PURPOSE:
- To provide legal nurse consultant students with an added option of completing an internship
module in the certificate program
- To assist students in achieving an actual, "hands on" clinical experience as part of their
education and training in the certificate program
- To allow students the experience of practicing legal nurse consulting with an identified
mentor and with one-to-one faculty instruction and counseling
- To enhance the new graduate's market potential by presenting evidence of a completed
clinical internship
- To allow students an array of experiences in the field of legal nurse consulting, prior to
completion of the certificate program
The Clinical Internship Module is comprised of 30 contact hours of practice. Students who
successfully complete the Clinical Internship Module will receive an additional 2 semester hours
of college credit from Canyon College.
PROGRAM FEATURES
- Students will secure a mentor in their own geographic location
- Those who may serve as mentors include: Certified Legal Nurse Consultants, Legal Nurse
Consultants who are not certified, but have a minimum of 3 years of full-time practice tenure,
and Attorneys.
- Students will sign a non-employment agreement with the mentor and will work with a mentor
for a period of 30 contact hours.
- Mentors will assign students specific legal cases to work on. Students will provide full
analysis and other related consultation to mentors. Mentors agree to receive the work product,
review the work product with the student, and assist the student in acquiring new knowledge and
skills in legal nurse consulting.
- Students may work on a variety of cases, including, medical malpractice, nursing
malpractice, toxic tort cases, workers compensation cases, wrongful death, criminal cases,
personal injury cases and/or product liability cases.
- Students will also have full access to faculty of Canyon College for one-to-one mentoring
during the clinical internship program.
- Students will submit to faculty of Canyon College copies of their full reports and work
product created and developed during the internship program.
- Mentors will be required to complete an evaluation of the student's work product for each
case assigned and presented for mentoring.
- Students who enter the clinical internship module will be authorized to do so only after
successful completion of Modules 1-4 of the Legal Nurse Consulting Certificate Program.
- Students will have a period of 120 days within which to successfully complete the Clinical
Internship module.
- The Clinical Internship module of study is an optional elective in the Legal Nurse
Consulting Certificate Program. Students must register for the module and submit the appropriate
additional fee, prior to beginning the internship.

Registrar's Office at Canyon College.
THE CLINICAL INTERNSHIP PROGRAM IS A 30 HOUR PRACTICUM AND STUDENTS WILL RECEIVE 2 SEMESTER
HOURS OF COLLEGE CREDIT UPON SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION.
