COURSE OVERVIEW:

This course is designed to introduce the student to the standards of the psychiatric and mental health nursing practice. The course includes the discussion of professional activities utilized by the nurse through the nursing process. These involve diagnosis, outcome, identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The nursing process forms the foundation of clinical decision making and encompasses all significant action taken by nurses in providing developmentally and culturally relevant psychiatric mental health care to all patients.

Special Assignment

I like to get to know my students with a short biography that you will post in the Forum board. You can get to the forum board via the classroom. After you get to our classroom, please click on COMMO, then click on the FORUM. There will be a pause for a few minutes so don't try to login or register. It is not necessary. After a lists of classes show up, scroll down to Nursing courses and Click on NR322 and the Biography topic will be listed. Click on Biography and read all about me and any other students bios. Then click on ADD reply to respond with your biography. You have to scroll all the way over to the right to see the message box. Type in your text and then hit ADD reply. Don't hit preview post or you will get lost . After you have successfully posted your response email me to let me know you have done so. This is the only time you will have to go to the forum. Everything else you need is in the classroom or via email. If you have trouble getting in the forum, don't worry about it. Just email me your bio and I will then email you mine. If you have any questions whatsoever, please email me.

ASSIGNMENTS

WEEKLY ASSIGNMENTS
Weekly Quizzes: You are required to take 6 weekly quizzes consisting of 15-25 questions covering the weekly readings in the text. Quizzes are taken online via the Canyon College web site. When you have completed a week's work go ahead and take the quiz. You'll get feedback on your progress as you take your exams with a report sent to your e-mail address by your instructor within 24 hours. Each quiz is worth 10 points. 10x6=60 points

Midterm Exam and Final Exam
The Midterm will be taken in the Exam Room at the end of Week 4 (instead of quiz 4). The Final will be taken at the end of Week 8 (instead of quiz 8}. You may only enter the Exam Room once and you have 2 hours to complete it. Once in a while a student may be knocked out in the middle of an exam. If this happens please e-mail me immediately. Each Exam is worth 20 points. 2x20=40 points.

Request access to the Midterm or Final 3 business days ahead of your desired time to take it. You will receive instructions on accessing and taking that examination.

A = 90-100
B = 80-89
C = 70-79
D = 60-69

All Students are expected to earn a “B” grade or better.
