COURSE OVERVIEW:

I am happy to provide you with information and instructions regarding this nursing pharmacology course. This Pharmacology for Nurses class is formatted as an online class. As you know, you have a time limit to complete this course. The time limit follows the College's policy for course time completion at the undergraduate level (8 weeks).

This is an exciting course and I am sure you will learn some of the most interesting principles related to the Nursing Pharmacotherapeutics. After successful completion of the course, you will have a much greater understanding of the Nursing Pharmacotherapeutics issues that are applicable to the delivery of health care services, as well as some of the most current and pressing issues in care delivery. This course is a undergraduate level course. It is formatted to be self-directed, along with one-on- one mentoring by faculty. As a undergraduate level course, you must be prepared to operationalize the concepts learned into the reality of today's health care environment.

This course is a course for students in the BSN program. This is a beginning level BSN course that focuses on the many principles and theories of Nursing Pharmacotherapeutics as it relates to health care delivery. The course allows students to progress from assessment to evaluation.

Students follow the course and chapter objectives and proceed toward passing this class. Some of the topics/subjects covered include; herbal preparations, body weight/surface area, and cultural responses to antihypertensive agents. Learning will provide students with the necessary foundation to progress passing ths class.

Students are encouraged to submit questions; and discuss issues and problems in Nursing Pharmacotherapeutics. The readings in the text, the analysis of case studies supplied in the text, our discussions, and your written homework assignments will assist in meeting this broad-based goal.

EXAMINATIONS:

There are two examinations for this course. There is a mid-term examination and a final examination.

The examinations are of the subjective and objective type. The examinations are "open" book. They thoroughly test knowledge in key areas of course content. While open book, they require thought and knowledge of the related content for successful completion.

Both examinations are taken "online." The examinations are accessed through the web site for Canyon College. When you are ready to take the examinations, please e-mail me directly and request authorization to take your exam. I will in turn notify the College that you may have exam access. You will receive a notice from the College's administrative offices that you are permitted to have access to the examination.

When you are ready to take the examinations, access the web site, and take the examination. Access each exam only once. If you have technical problems, please notify your instructor or the technical support office of Canyon College immediately. The examinations are graded after completion and you will be notified.

Most times within 48 business hours of the completion of your exam, you will receive its score.

Please plan to take the midterm exam by the middle of the time period of the course. The final examination must be taken by the last day of the final week of the course.

GRADE ASSIGNMENT FOR EXAMINATIONS:

You will receive a letter grade, based on your over all score achievement. The grading scale is as follows:

90% - 100%
80% - 89%
70% - 79%
60% - 69%

You will receive a percentage score for the midterm exam and the final exam. I will e-mail these to you.

You will receive a letter grade for the midterm period. I will e-mail this to you and the administration will send you an e-mail.

Your final letter grade will be an average of the midterm exam and final exam scores you achieved. You will receive two e-mails about the final course grade, one from me and one from the administration.

READING ASSIGNMENTS:

Your reading assignments are self-paced. The reading assignment schedule is as follows:

Basic Math Review. This will be sent to you by e-mail once you have your textbook(s). Once you are done with this review, please take the Basic Math exam. You will receive a grade via e-mail. However, this grade will not count toward your final overall grade for this class.

Before you obtain your grade for the Basic Math exam, you may proceed with this next reading. Required reading is chapter 1 - 27. Following reading and studying of the mentioned chapters, you may proceed to take the Mid-term examination. Please submit your midterm exam request at 2 business days in advance of when you desire to start the exam. You should have completed the reading for the before mentioned by the mid point in the course.

After you have completed the Midterm examination, please proceed to the next required reading; chapters 28 - 55. You should complete the readings for this section by the last week of the course. After completing the readings and study for this, you may proceed to take the Final examination.

WRITTEN ASSIGNEMENTS:

There are four written assignments for this class. Detailed directions for the written assignment are provided to the student upon enrollment.

WHAT TO DO:
  1. Order your text book immediately.
  2. Review the chapter objectives in class before reading and studying each chapter.
  3. Take the Basic Math exam at the beginning of this class.
  4. Start your homework assignments.
  5. When instructed, proceed to take the midterm examination
  6. When instructed, proceed to take the final examination
  7. During the first week of the course, please e-mail your instructor and provide your instructor with some basic information about you, including;
  8. Contact your instructor any time you would like to discuss the readings, have questions, require clarifications or further explanations regarding pharmacology for nurses.
  9. Share with your instructor current event issues related to nursing pharmacology that you identify in the news media, etc. In turn, your instructor may share such information with you for discussion and analysis.
