Course Description

This course is a study of techniques used in training and career planning and development strategies for the workforce and how the two work together.

Prerequisites: None, but it would be a good idea to have already taken BU309, Employee Training and Development, and BU333, Training Techniques as this course builds on the information learned in those courses.

***I. Overview and Course Goals

This goal of this course is to learn about the strategies involved in training and development and career development.

During Week 1, The topic of employee training and employee development and strategic training will be examined.

During Week 2, Traditional training methods will be studied.

During Week 3, E learning and Use of technology in training will be addressed.

During Week 4, Employee Development is the topic.

During Week 5, issues in employee and development will be addressed.

During Week 6, Careers and Career development are the topics this week.

During Week 7, The challenges of career management will be learned.

During the final week the final project is due and a look to the future of training and development will be done.

IV. Course Policies

Participation

This course is offered on-line, over the Internet. A class week is normally defined as the period of time between Monday and Sunday. The first week begins when after enrollment and your first communication with your instructor. Assignments scheduled for completion during a class week should be completed by the end of the week assigned. Writing assignments and formal papers should be completed by the due date. This applies to all assignments. Assignments may only be submitted via email.

Late homework will be penalized by one grade and will not be accepted after 7 days.

Examinations

The final exam will be a project that demonstrates learning. The project will be designed by the student and teacher together.

Ground Rules for On-line Participation
  1. Students should use e-mail for private messages to the instructor and other students. The Class Conference is for public messages.
  2. Conventions of "on-line etiquette," which include courtesy to all users, will be observed.
  3. Students may get assistance with computer-related problems through the instructor.
  4. Students will normally submit papers as an attachment to email by Microsoft word or RTF (rich text format) files uploaded to the computer and routed to the instructor via email.
Academic Honesty

Canyon College policies are in effect. Plagiarism is not acceptable: remember if you steal it, it is plagiarism, if you use it and acknowledge it, it is research!

Grading Policy

The final course grade will be determined using the following measurements: The following percentages will be used to assign course grades:
Grade assignment % of Grade Due Date
Homework assignments 55% Saturday (or other day as agreed) of week assigned
Instructor Evaluation/Class Participation 10% Continually
Final project (Comprehensive) 35% Eighth class week
Total 100%
