COURSE SYLLABUS:  Quantitative Methods

Course Title:	BU600 - Quantitative Methods

Prerequisites:	Good standing in the program. This course is part of the core curriculum.

Course Description:
This course is a comprehensive examination into descriptive statistics. The course also explores the methods and concepts of calculus with applications to business and economics; marginal functions, graphing, extreme values, and area problems.

Learning Objectives:
This course is a core course requirement for the DBA program in Business Administration. This course is designed to assist students in developing a sound background in descriptive research.

The students are encouraged to become familiar with other sources, especially those located electronically.

Assessment:

1. Write an eight page Reflective Paper using the APA style (5th Edition) on a topic relevant to Quantitative Methods.
2. Exercises will be evaluated on timeliness and accuracy.

Academic Requirements

1. All students are expected to "attend" the course by completing all course assignments in an academic manner and with complete preparation.
2. Grammar, punctuation, spelling and overall composition will be including in the grading of all assignments.
3. Students are required to complete each unit within a one-week time frame. At the students request, and successful completion of a unit in less than one week, the instructor will provide students with subsequent units of homework in advance.
4. Plagiarism will not be tolerated.

Method of Instruction

BUS 600– Quantitative Methods is a distance-learning course offered through Canyon College. Because this class is a partially self-paced program in that you may complete a specific weeks work at anytime during that week timeframe, it is essential that the student review all available materials located in the text, classroom, e-mail, and syllabus. Course examinations will be administered on-line during the fourth and eighth weeks of class. Prior to the submission of the first assignment each student is required to submit via e-mail to the instructor the following information:

• Name, e-mail address, course expectations, professional work experience, educational background and anything else you would like the instructor to know about you.

Course Schedule and Assignments

Week 1

• Unit 1: Read chapters 1 & 2. Perform and submit exercises 1.2-1.8, 2.4-2.24, and 2.44 to your professor.

Week 2

• Unit 2: Read Chapters 3 & 4. Perform and submit exercises 3.20, 4.54, and 4.86 to your professor.

Week 3

• Unit 3: Read Chapters 5 & 6. Perform and submit 5.30-5.42 and 6.20-6.28 to your professor.

Week 4

• Unit 4: Read Chapters 7 & 8. Perform and submit exercises 7.18-7.28, 8.18-8.30, and 8.102 to your professor. Submit a detailed description of the Reflective/Term Paper you have chosen covering a topic in quantitative methods, including the purpose of the study and the limitations of the study. This can be done in one to three pages. Wait for the professor’s comments.

Week 5

• Unit 5: Read Chapters 9 &10. Perform and submit exercises 9.30-9.34, 10.2- 10.16 to your professor.

Week 6

• Unit 6: Read Chapters 11 & 12. Perform and submit exercises 11.2, 11.14, 12.4, 12.6, and 12.14 to your professor.

Week 7

• Unit 7: Read Chapters 13 & 14. Perform and submit exercises 13.1 – 13.10 and 14.1 – 14.20 to your professor

Week 8 - Final Exam

• Unit 8: Read Chapters 15 & 16. Perform and submit exercises 15.1-15.20 and 16.1-16.10 to your professor. Submit your eight-page Reflective Paper to the instructor.
