Prerequisites: Good standing in the program. All required courses below BU691 have been completed or the last course is enrolled in at the same time as this one.


Course Description:

This purpose of this course is to complete the Bibliographical Investigation for the Doctoral Dissertation. Students will research the topic of the dissertation for discovery and supporting data. Students will use the concepts, theories, and methodologies learned in previous courses to develop the general theme of the Doctoral Dissertation.

Learning Objectives:

The students will:
  1. Complete the Basic Bibliographical Investigation into their topic.
  2. Conduct research which may include Internet resources, periodical publications, surveys, or interviews.
  3. Prepare and share the required documents with the assigned professor.
Books:    Online Bookstore

Resource materials may be purchased through the online bookstore.

Supplementary Resources:

The students are encouraged to become familiar with other sources, especially those located electronically.

Assessment:
  1. Contact professor for opening tasks. Maintain contact with professor.
  2. Create grids, spreadsheets, or documents of researched material.
Academic Requirements:

  1. All students are expected to “attend” the course by submitting a biweekly e-mail of progress of the previous two weeks.
  2. Proper grammar, punctuation, spelling, and standard overall composition.
  3. Plagiarism will not be tolerated.
Method of Instruction

BU691 is a distance-learning course offered through Canyon College. Prior to the submission of the first assignment each student is required to submit via e-mail to the instructor the following information.
Name and e-mail address and anything else you would like the instructor to know about which may include your course expectations, professional work experience, educational background, and/or resume.
Course Schedule and Assignments:

Week 1
Submit an introductory e-mail to your instructor. Read opening e-mail requirements from the assigned professor.
Week 2
Start research and analysis of found data.
Week 2, 3, or 4
Submit a draft of the format of collected data to the professor at the agreed time.
Week 3, 5, 7, 9,
Submit progress e-mail to your instructor.
Week 7, 8, 9, or 10
Submit a detailed description of the dissertation topic you have chosen, including the purpose of the study and the limitations of the study. Wait for the professor’s comments.
Week 9 - 12 or assigned last week
Submit your Bibliographical Investigation Paper/Data. Wait for the professor’s comments.
Grading criteria:

Professor Contact: 50%
Reflective Paper: 50%

The Final Grade issued for BU691 will be Pass or Fail.
