Course Objective: Upon completion of this course, the student will have a basic understanding of the pathology of Physical Abusers and Sexual Offenders.

Course Purpose: This course will look at the similarities between physical abusers and sexual offenders as well as the assessment, investigating, and treatment of them.

Method:

1. E-mail correspondence one-on-one with the instructor. Each student must contact the instructor by e-mail during the first week he or she begin the course. I would appreciate the following information: name, e-mail address, state in which you reside, course expectations, brief work experience, educational background, and any interests you may wish to share. This is worth 20 points toward your final grade

2. Weekly assignments outlined below will be worth 20 points toward your final grade.

3. There will be a mid-term project at the end of the 4th week consisting of watching one of the films listed below and identifying in a writing assignment the parts of the offense cycle that were evident in the film. (*Note - you may choose an alternate film with prior approval from the instructor. YOU MUST GET PRIOR APPROVAL or you will receive a failing grade on the project.)

The mid term will be worth 100 points toward your final grade.

4. There will be a final exam at the end of the 8th week consisting of T/F and Multiple Choice questions. The final exam will cover the entire text. The final exam will be worth 100 points toward your final grade.

There is a possible total of 400 points available through the initial e-mail to the instructor, the weekly assignments, and the two exams.

200 points Mid-Term and Final Exams (worth 100 points each)

ASSIGNMENTS:

Week 1: Chapters 1 - 7
Each week your assignment begins on Monday and you will have the week to review the material. On Friday, you will receive a discussion question or topic and will be expected to submit a response by Sunday.

Penalties will be 5 points off for each unexcused late day. Excuses will be approved on a case-by-case basis and must be emailed in advance.

Week 2: Chapters 8 - 14
Each week your assignment begins on Monday and you will have the week to review the material. On Friday, you will receive a discussion question or topic and will be expected to submit a response by Sunday.
