COURSE SYLLABUS: Handwriting Analysis / Graphology

1. The goal of this 8-9 week online-course is to help the student familiarize him/herself with the various features of the handwriting that are subject to analysis, understand what handwriting analysis is, what it can and can not reveal about the writer, learn to recognize the major personality features, cognitive and affective processes, social interaction and adjustment, and finally enable the student to recognize the cardinal signs of potentially violent behavior as well as the cardinal features of mental health problems.

2. In working toward the above goals, one basic principle will be repeated time and again: No single handwriting feature, no single stroke, no matter how prominent it may appear, in it by itself can not be a reliable factor in determining or predicting the behavior and or personality of the writer.

3. This online course will be presented in 8 lectures, to be emailed to a each student before the class meets online for a live and open discussion.

Scientific Aspects of Graphology, a handbook, by Baruch Nevo, Ph.D. Charles C. Thomas, Publisher ISBN: 039805245X

Danger Between The Lines, by Kimon Iannetta is highly recommended, although for the first level of handwriting analysis class is not required.


5. The material presented to the students will include handwriting samples of both famous individuals as well as those unknown to the public.

6. Outline of the 8 lectures:
  1. History of writing, handwriting and graphology, or handwriting analysis.
  2. What is handwriting? The psychological, emotional and physiological foundations of handwriting or better yet brain-writing,
  3. Systems of handwriting analysis, Gestalt Vs Trait stroke.
  4. What does the current research state about graphology, and why should we care?
  5. Space organization, zones, margins, baseline, and word spacing.
  6. Pressure, writing size and slant, basic energy flow and adaptability.
  7. Form, Personal Pronoun, Capital letters, the signature, miscellaneous forms & Red flags.
  8. How to organize your observations and how to write a 1-2 page personality description report?
