Course Description:

This course studies transnational crime and the agencies that study and seek to control it. It covers an in-depth view of the amount, nature and trends in transnational crimes.

Course Requirements:

The final grade will be based on written chapter reviews a student has to prepare on each chapter of material read (50%) and on the completion of two research papers (25% each; 50% total)

Academic Dishonesty:

Any form of academic dishonesty is regarded as a very serious violation of college regulations. Any student suspected of engaging in such activity will be subject to the full set of procedures set forth by the college.

Chapter Reviews:

Once a student finishes reading a chapter of material, the student has to prepare a typewritten (double-spaced) review of that chapter.

That review must:

- Run between three to five pages
- Summarize the chapter
- Identify at least five points that the author(s) raise to support the main theme of the chapter
- [Where applicable] Identify and define the kind of proscribed activity (the definition for each such criminal act must include those elements which a prosecutor necessary would have to establish to secure a conviction)

Research Papers

A student must write two (2) research papers, a minimum of 25 pages in length.

The first research paper deals with any of the topics raised in the first topic, "United States criminal laws that apply to doing business abroad" and is due after the completion of that topic's material.

The second research paper deals with any of the topics raised in the third topic, "Foreign Criminal Laws that affect doing business abroad" and " and is due after the completion of that topic's material.

All papers must be typed, and double-spaced. Footnotes and references have to be done consistent either of the two preferred method of annotation. Students should have no fewer than ten references.
