COURSE DESCRIPTION AND OVERVIEW

This course will examine the major cognitive theories utilized in reform-based classrooms and the strategies that promote higher-order learning skills. The course further addresses and demonstrates the profound implications underlying the coherence of curriculum, instruction, and assessment.

COURSE COMMENTARY

Each candidate enrolled in this course has up to eight weeks to complete the assignments indicated below. However, a candidate may elect to accelerate his/her course of study and finish the assignments at an earlier time without permission from the instructor.

After each assignment that is submitted, the candidate will receive an email within 24 hours indicating his/her score along with possible comments or feedback from the instructor.

COURSE ASSIGNMENTS

1. Reflection and Reaction Papers
The text utilized in this course presents strong implications for reform in educational policy, curriculum, and epistemology. After reading the text, the candidate will be armed with tools for enlightenment; therefore, Reflection and Reaction Papers will best assess educational growth. There will be a total of four (4) Reflection and Reaction Papers. Each paper should be 1 – 2 pages in length, double spaced, 12 point Times New Roman font. Each Reflection and Reaction Paper should focus on one chapter from the text (only four chapters will be represented in this series of assessments), answering the following questions: 2. Final Position Paper
Also, the candidate will prepare a Final Position Paper that contrasts one of the chapters authored in the text with his or her own opinion. This chapter may be one where the candidate has prepared a Reflection and Reaction Paper, but not necessarily. The paper should be 2 – 3 pages in length, 12 point Times New Roman font, double spaced, with a brief bibliography. The candidate will
