Course Description:

The beginning of this course attempts to familiarize the student with basic knowledge in the study of curriculum development including history, theories, and models. The second part of the course deals with the process of developing a curriculum and the application of that curriculum to specific situations.

This course will include the following topics as included in the text. Required Text:   Online Bookstore

Curriculum Essentials: A Resource for Educators, by Jon Wiles. Allyn and Bacon, 1998/1999. ISBN: 0205279880

Requirements and Grading:

There will be a total of 200 points. Scale Students must attain at least 140 points to receive any credit for the course.
No assignments will be adjusted. The student is responsible to follow the weekly schedule and post work in a timely manner. The weekly work is due no later than the last day of the week (Sunday). One point per day will be deducted from each late assignment.


How to Contact the Instructor:

I may be contacted through my personal E-mail. I will usually respond within 24 to 48 hours. If I will be unavailable due to an unexpected circumstance I will post instructions on the Forum Board. I will also check the Forum Board regularly for any comments or questions you may have. This is also an excellent means to communicate with other classmates.
I would like for you to send your e-mail address and any other contact information you would like for me to have to my e-mail address.
Please check the classroom at least weekly for assignments and lecture comments.
Any work sent as an attachment should be produced using Microsoft Word.

Course Week:

For this class the week will begin on Monday (Day 1). Sunday is the last day of the week (Day 7). Assignments scheduled for completion during a class week should be sent to this instructor via e-mail by midnight of the day 7, Sunday. Midnight is determined by your time zone. I will accept late work for up to 3 days after the due date with a deduction of one point per day. If you have an emergency situation or sickness please e-mail me at my personal e-mail before the due date and I will consider no penalty as a possibility.

Plagiarism:

Canyon College and this instructor cannot tolerate plagiarism. Some of your work may be submitted at random to web sites that check for plagiarism. A grade of F will be given for any assignment that has been plagiarized.

Assignments:

All assignments except exams are to be posted on the classroom board AND sent to my e-mail (suttons@canyoncollege.edu). This is for your benefit. I want to be certain that your assignments reach me on time.
Send as follows for the subject line:
Name/lesson (i.e. wk1 dq 1,2,3)/Sec.Curr.
Also include the discussion question to which you are responding so there will be no confusion.
