COURSE DESCRIPTION AND OVERVIEW

This course is a continuation of Measurement and Assessment Theory II. Specifically, this course will survey relevant standardized achievement and aptitude tests, as well as an exploration of psychometrics and the assessment of personality.

COURSE COMMENTARY

Each candidate enrolled in this course has up to eight weeks to complete the assignments indicated below. However, a candidate may elect to accelerate his/her course of study and finish the assignments at an earlier time without permission from the instructor.

After each assignment that is submitted, the candidate will receive an email within 24 hours indicating his/her score along with possible comments or feedback from the instructor.

Each assignment in this course (related to individual chapters, totaling three) is valuated at ten (20) possible points. The final paper is valuated at forty (40) possible points. Therefore, the candidate’s grade is derived from the following framework.

  2. Explain the method of scaling.
  3. Differentiate between selected-response format and constructed-response format. Would multiple choice questions be an example of selected-response or constructed-response?
  4. Define computerized adaptive testing (CAT).
  5. Describe the differences qualitative and quantitative item analysis.

  2. Chose two scholars and summarize how they define intelligence.
  3. Describe three factors that pose as possible discrepancies when measuring intelligence.

  1. Differentiate between objective methods and projective methods of personality assessment.
  2. Define a word association test and create a brief example.
Read Chapter 15
Provide brief responses to the following questions. Email your responses to the instructor.
  1. Define the medical model of disability and the social model of disability.
  2. In the school setting, who determines that the student shall be considered disabled and entitled to special services?
  3. How are individuals with a disability protected by the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990?
  4. List and describe three assessment methods from the specific disabilities mentioned in this chapter.
FINAL PAPER
The topic of the final paper is test item formats. Candidates should refer to pages 202-206 in the text to support their claims. The paper should be two to three (2-3) pages in length, 12 point font, double spaced. While the text should be consulted for your response, it is encouraged that it is personalized with your opinions and feelings. The following questions should be used a framework for your paper:
  1. In general, what are the two best methods of assessments in your discipline or intended discipline?
  2. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each item format?
  3. What item formats are utilized in classroom assessment that are not mentioned in the text? Describe the strength(s) and weakness(es) of one such test item.
