COURSE COMMENTARY

Each candidate enrolled in this course has up to eight weeks to complete the assignment indicated below. However, a candidate may elect to accelerate his/her course of study and finish the action plan at an earlier time without permission from the instructor.

The action plan, comprising the introductory information and background call for research, will comprise the assessment for this course. Candidates will not be required to carry out their action research plan in their classroom as a course assignment, but it is encouraged that they seek a topic that is identified as an area of interest and importance in their current (or prospective) capacity.

The required text for this course provides invaluable insight into the process of action research. Once the candidate has read and reviewed the text, he/she will be armed with the skills and abilities to identify and articulate an action research plan. Pages 215-219 of the text demonstrate an exemplary action plan prepared by Jonathan Stewart.

The following format, utilized by Stewart, must be integrated in the candidate’s action plan.

I.Area of Focus Statement
II.Defining the Variables
III.Research Question
IV.Intervention
V.Membership of the Action Research Group (or Definition of the Population)
VI.Negotiations to Be Undertaken
VII.Timeline
VIII.Resources
IX.Data Collection Ideas (Methodology)
X.Data Analysis and Interpretation
XI.The Findings
XII.Action Planning
XIII.On-Line Resources (optional)

The instructor welcomes early submissions of the completed final draft. If the instructor deems it necessary, he will provide feedback and suggestions for improvement. The candidate will then be responsible to modify and further develop their action research plan for resubmission. This allows the candidate to feel confident in the development of his/her action research plan.

This action research plan is worth a total of 100 points.
