SUMMARY:
this is a three semester hour, graduate course, for those students enrolled in the graduate health care administration program. This course focuses on the topic of contracting with payers for contracts in managed care. This is an advanced course in managed care concepts. The course covers a variety of important related topics, thus allowing students an in-depth understanding of the processes involved in managed care contracting.

The overall objective of the course is to understand the details of managed care contracting and begin to implement the theories and strategies in a health care environment. Students will find this course very useful whether employed in a health care service organization, or a managed care organization. Related introductory material is presented, along with content on contract development, negotiations, analysis, and implementation. Specialty contracting is also presented, as well as legal and regulatory issues related to managed care contracting. Students who successfully complete this course will have an excellent foundation for working with managed care contracting in the practice setting.

EXAMINATIONS:
There is a mid-term and a final examination. Examinations are taken "online" via the classroom. A score of 70 % or above is required on each of the examinations to pass the course. The mid-term examination is to be completed sometime during week 4, and the final examination is to be completed during week 8 of the course.

SCORING/GRADE:
90 % - 100 % = A
80 % - 89 % = B
70% - 79 % = C
60% - 69 % = D
below 60 % = F

ASSIGNEMENTS:
Students are required to complete all of the required reading prior to taking the examinations. There are weekly assignments for this course, and each assignment must be submitted and approved by the instructor before accessing the examinations.

Weekly assignments consist of short answers to particular questions. All assignment questions are posted in the classroom.
