Course Description:

This course will provide a student of holistic understanding of security education, awareness and training theory and practice. It will enable the student to put theory into practice when developing and presenting any form of security education and training program. It is intended to be a back to basics primer on security education and training.

Objectives:
  1. To develop a better understanding of how to establish and integrate a structured, internally consistent and coherent program from the ground up.
  2. To learn how to better assess security program needs and to customize training accordingly.
  3. To review processes and procedural checklists for more effectively developing training solutions for all levels of employees.

Grades:

100 points available for answering each weekly question-10 points for each weekly question: 20 points for special topic report: The Use of Table Top Training in Homeland Security.

Written Report Assignment:

Each student is required to research and write a five page double spaced typed report on the topic: The Use of Table Top Training in Homeland Security. You discussion should include military, government and private-sector applications of this training technique for homeland security purposes. You should provide at least five different sources for this paper. It is due on week 10 -- the final week of the semester. It is worth 20 points. Points will be subtracted for spelling, grammar and sloppiness.

10 points for answering each week’s questions. 100 possible points.

110 - 120 = A
105 - 109 = A-
100 - 104 = B+
95 - 99 = B
90 - 94 = B-
85 - 88 = C+
80 - 84 = C
75 - 79 = C-
70 - 74 = D

Week 9: How much security education and awareness training is enough?

Week 10: How do we prepare to deliver a successful security education program?

About Your Instructor:

Ed Piper has served as a security consultant and trainer to the security industry since the 1980’s. He has developed Homeland Security, anti-drug, anti-terrorism and anti-piracy training programs in the US, South America, Italy and Africa. He served as a primary contractor to the RSO of Panama. He has served with the Office of Naval Intelligence and the NCIS. He serves on the faculty of Johns Hopkins University.
