Hello and welcome to Introduction to the Hospitality and Tourism Industry. I will be your guide as I facilitate your online learning experience. In the next few weeks, we will be discussing the wonderful world of the hospitality and tourism industry as it progresses through its challenges, moving to the future. We will also see different segments and career paths that you may consider as well. GENERAL COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is an introduction to the hospitality and tourism industry. It will cover many components of the industry, as it has been in the past, and how it is moving into the future with new and up and coming areas, providing students with a broad-based understanding of what careers can be explored here. You should leave the course with a broad sense and understanding of where you might want to go next in the field.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
Upon completion, students should be able to:
Describe the diverse segments of the hospitality and tourism industry
Understand the history of this industry
Identify how this industry is impacted from a global perspective
Get a general understanding of diverse markets affected and targeted
Identify careers within the industry
METHOD OF INSTRUCTION
HT305 is a partially self-paced distance learning course offered through Canyon College. At the beginning of the course, each student is required to submit to the instructor via e-mail – a short biography which includes the following information:

Listed below is the grading scale which will be used for this class.
100 - 09 = A
89 - 80 = B
79 - 70 = C
69 - 60 = D
59 or below = F
LATE ASSIGNMENTS
Weekly assignments are due by midnight YOUR time zone by the end of each week (Sunday). All other assignments (midterm, final project, and final exam) are due by midnight your time zone on their respective due dates. Any late assignments will be deducted 25% per day, up to 2 days, meaning, if it is due Sunday and it is late, I will only accept it until Tuesday midnight your time zone. Please keep in mind that this is very detrimental, so please make sure not to let this happen.

FINAL PROJECT
I would like to have the student interview key management personnel in their respective chosen field of career in hospitality. Please contact me regarding getting a set of basic questions that you may ask. Or, you may email me a set of questions you may want to ask and I can review them. The final report should be 5-10 pages in length, doubled-spaced, 12 font, with 1” page borders.
