GENERAL COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course is focused on the laws and regulations of Casino Operations. During this course, students will learn about how and why laws were designed to regulate casinos.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:
  1. Understand the history and development of gaming laws.
  2. Understand the importance of gaming licenses and adhering to state laws and regulations.
  3. Explore the theories and beliefs of public attitudes towards gambling.
  4. Identify and understand the various types of policy models in the gaming industry.
  5. Understand the investigative process of the gaming industry.
  6. Identify types of casino crimes and apply appropriate disciplinary actions.
TIME FRAME FOR THIS COURSE IS EIGHT (8) WEEKS

METHOD OF INSTRUCTION

HT394 is a partially self-paced distance learning course offered through Canyon College. At the beginning of the course, each student is required to submit to the instructor via e-mail a short biography, which includes the following information: ACADEMIC HONESTY

The course grading criteria is as follows:

Weekly Assignments 25 points
Mid-Term 35 points
Final Exam 40 points


100-90 A
89-80 B
79-70 C
69-60 D
Below 60 F


COURSE ASSIGNMENTS

At the undergraduate level, students are expected to have an advanced writing style. All written assignments must be typed on a computer in an organized format of your choice as long as it is appropriate for the information being presented. Once each assignment is completed, please submit to my e-mail address: chat251@bellsouth.net
All Assignments are due each Saturday by midnight.

Writing Assignment:
Select any casino and write a two-page summary regarding some of its policies and laws. Write a one-page summary describing your personal and religious (if any) views about casino gambling. Include how you think it affects the individuals of its city, especially minors outlook, and the economical structure of its city.

Writing Assignment:
Select an article regarding gaming regulations and summarize it. Please provide me with a copy of the article.

Week Three:

Chapter 6: Regulatory Organizations
Chapter 7: Protecting The Integrity Of The Process

Writing Assignment:
In your own words, describe the Capture Theory and the Multiple Interest Theory.
Prepare a two-page summary regarding supporting & protecting the mechanism.

Chapter 8: Considerations In Development Of A Casino
Chapter 9: Regulation And Demand Stimulation

Midterm Examination (Chapters 1-9) Due Saturday by midnight.

Week Five:

Writing Assignment:
Utilizing the casino you selected in week one, find out about the licensing process within that city or state and write a summary.

Find an article regarding internal controls for casinos or governmental audits on casinos and provide a summary. Please submit the article with your summary.

Writing Assignment:
Select an article that describes any casino criminal activities and write a summary. Please provide a copy of the article.

Final Examination (Chapters 10-17) Due Saturday by midnight.
