Consumer Law. Topics included in this course will focus on Consumer Transactions, Modern Consumer
Protection Statutes, False Advertising, Pyramid Schemes, Car schemes, Credit Report Schemes and
Real Estate Schemes, just to name a few.

Structure of Course:
This course is a self-paced course. Students are highly encouraged to read every chapter of the
textbook for a foundation of the material presented in this course. There will be no mid-term
or final for this course. Students will be required to present a paper. The paper is to be a
maximum of ten pages in 12 point font and double spaced.
The content of the paper shall consist of each student performing independent research on the
web/internet based on a topic presented in the book. Students should pick a type of consumer
fraud that is of interest to them thus, making the project more interesting for the students.
Students do not need prior approval from instructor on their topic. However, the student may
contact instructor regarding a possible topic.
Regardless of the topic selected, students will need to find any consumer protection agencies
whether in local, state or federal government that assist consumers in either preventing the
respective type of fraud or assists victims of the selected fraud or any agencies/private
companies that could also assist. In addition, students can describe any other website that
deals with their particular issue. Students are not allowed to just site the website or copy
and paste the material from a website. Students are to summarize the content of the information
presented.
Grades:
Students grades will be based solely on their efforts exemplified in their paper.

Upon the successful completion of this course, you should be able to:
Understand a summary of the many facets of consumer law in the United States.
Acquire a working knowledge of the rules and regulations relating to consumer law as related
to only the United States.
Understand the key concepts involved in most consumer fraud schemes on the American public
in order to avoid falling prey to the scheme.
