Prerequisites:

There are not prerequisites for this class. It is a foundational core requirement for Journalism and Mass Communication. However, it is also a base course for those who want to succeed in the business community.

General Course Description:

Study of the nature of communication theories and theory development, theories of meaning, information processing and influence with applications to selected communication contexts.

Course Requirements:

  1. There will be six quizzes, a mid-term and final exam. They will cover your assigned readings, lectures and discussions. The test will be comprised of true/false, multiple choice and essay questions.
  2. You will be required to complete a term paper between 7 to 10 pages. The term paper will cover a communication theory of your choice. You will relate it to an activity within your life. You will use the APA format for this paper.

Lectures:

I will post chapter outlines each week and augment them throughout the week. It is during my argumentations that I will give you your reading assignments, test preparations and weekly instructions.

Grading Scale:

A = 90-100%
B = 80-89%
C = 70-79%
D = 60-69%
F = Below 60%

Classroom:

You will be notified how and when to login for your course materials and participation.

Participation:

This is an online course. You can complete respective assignments during the week. The week will began on Monday and end on Sunday. Please keep in mind this is an internet class, therefore, I expect all work to be completed online, unless you have coordinated faxing, mailing, etc. Regardless of the method of using, all required work will be due to me no later than respective dates.

Late Assignments:

Assignments are due no later than midnight YOUR time zone. I will verify time zones the first week of class. I reserve the right to deduct up to five points each day your assignment is late. If you have not coordinated with me on an assignment, I will consider it late and deduct accordingly.

Academic Integrity:

Please follow Canyon College’s academic honesty policy. All your work will be authentic, and yours unless I authorized otherwise. There will not be any applicable excuses in this area.

You may coordinate with the instructor for extra credit, make-up exams, etc.
