Course Objective:

Upon completion of this course, the student should be capable of performing the following public relations activities:
  1. Understand and appreciate the history, ethics, strategic planning principles and techniques of the field of public relations and its practitioners; Analyze public relations problems and opportunities;
  1. Understand and apply the terminology and theoretical concepts associated with the field of public relations;
  1. Understand the opportunities existing as communicators within the field of public relations
Course purpose:

This course is intended to familiarize the student with aspects of public relations, particularly as that field supports organizational management functions. Emphasis will be on establishing communication goals, conducting research, executing the communications plan within ethical principles, and evaluating the total communications effort regarding public relations.

Method:
  1. Assigned reading assignments.
  2. E-mail correspondence one on one with the instructor at least once during the eight week course. Please submit the following information to the instructor as soon as possible: name, e-mail address, user name, course expectations, brief work experience, educational background and any special interests you may wish to share.
  3. Message board participation for individual and group discussions are available upon request.
  4. Class room (chat room) discussions are also possible if desired.
  5. Exams: Midterm and Final. Each exam is worth 50 % of the course grade.
