COURSE SYLLABUS: MANAGEMENT OF INFORMATION SYSTEMS CERTIFICATE
PROGRAM

INTRODUCTION
The Management of Information Systems Certificate course is directly concerned
with the management issues surrounding information and telecommunications
systems. It presents the ingredients of management knowledge necessary for
success in managing information technology. This course views information
technology from the perspective of managers at several levels--from the CEO
to the front line manager. It provides frameworks and management principles
that aspiring managers can employ to cope with the challenges inherent in
the implementation of rapidly advancing technology.
Furthermore the course considers strategic and operational issues, the
significance of rapidly advancing technology and human and organizational
issues related to technology introduction and use. The course describes management
systems and models of successful behavior that capitalize on opportunities
and avoid numerous potential pitfalls.
This certificate course is formatted for 90 contact hours of self-paced
study. Upon completion of the course, participants will be awarded the Certificate
of Management of Information Systems as well as 6 semester hours of credit
from the College. The cost for the program is $900.
The course is presented in four (4) modules. Each module is outlined below,
including content and reading assignments. Following the completion of each
module, the participant will take an examination. The examinations will be
either multiple choice or essay format. After successful completion of all
four (4) Modules and the four examinations, the participant will complete
the program and receive the Certificate. Participants are given twelve (12)
months to complete the program. You may study at your own pace, and can progress
through the course as quickly as you like, or as paced as you like. Instructions
for moving through the course are provided below.

as you proceed through the course.
TEXTBOOK - Online Bookstore
The text for the certificate program is: "Management of Information Technology"
3th Edition by Carroll Frenzel ISBN #: 0760049904. You are required
to purchase this text on your own. It can easily be purchased directly from
Amazon or your book store. We will also be using case studies and research
papers available on the web. One of the best ways to learn about building
computer systems is to examine management case studies. The papers we read
should encourage positive thought on these topics.
SUBMITTING EXAMS
Examinations will be taken and submitted to the instructor via e-mail or
fax or online system. The link to the exam may be found in the electronic
class-room. Prior approval must be obtained to access each exam. Please contact
the instructor to obtain the necessary security access. Exams must be taken
in the order of the modules, 1, 2, 3, and 4.
GETTING STARTED
As soon as your receive your textbook, you may begin your course of study.
Below is the syllabus with reading assignments. When you complete the reading
assignments for Module 1, and you have had any and all your questions answered
by the instructor, you may go ahead and take the examination for Module 1.
When completed, submit it to the instructor and begin your reading assignments
for Module 2, and continue this way to completion of the entire course.

but think about them on your own.
