Plagiarism
The following information was obtained directly from:
http://www.plagiarism.org/learning_center/what_is_plagiarism.html
According to the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary, to
"plagiarize" means
· to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one's own
· to use (another individual's production) without crediting the source
· to commit literary theft
· to present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source.
All of the following are considered plagiarism:
· turning in someone else's work as your own
· copying words or ideas from someone else without giving credit
· failing to put a quotation in quotation marks
· giving incorrect information about the source of a quotation
· changing words but copying the sentence structure of a source without giving credit
· copying so many words or ideas from a source that it makes up the majority of your work, whether you give credit or not
Most cases of plagiarism can be
avoided, however, by citing sources. Simply acknowledging that certain material
has been borrowed, and providing your audience with the information necessary
to find that source, is usually enough to prevent plagiarism.
Plagiarism will result in a failing grade for the
course.
You are encouraged to use the internet for research or other
professional/academic sources of information to supplement your assignments.
You will need access to professional journals either on the WWW or local
medical libraries. Be sure to credit all material.
The course quizzes are located in the classroom. You
access them online and once you hit submit they are sent directly to me to
grade. You have 90 minutes to complete each test. I am notified when a student
enters and exits a test.
Development of a classroom
teaching strategy
Consider a specific topic in an area of nursing that you feel is important for
nursing students to learn- this can be in your area of expertise or not. It can
be an idea that is very specific, such as a particular skill in a clinical
setting, or a broader topic such as the attributes that good nurses have that
you would like to teach. Be creative!
Now picture yourself in a classroom or a clinical setting with a group of
students. You have 2 hours to teach them whatever it is you have selected.
· Develop your classroom or clinical teaching strategy based on what you have read as well as any specific research you have done on the topic.
o Be specific and describe what you will do and why.
o Describe at least one type of disruptive student and how you will handle it.
o Finish it up with how you will evaluate the learning outcomes.
Be sure to cite all borrowed work and use appropriate references when necessary.
