Syllabus
Welcome to NH715, a Doctorate Level course in the curriculum for the Degree, Doctorate in Natural
Health Care. We are pleased to offer you this course, which will be a very important foundational
course for the remainder of your studies in the doctorate program. This is an exciting course. We
have the opportunity in this course to explore the art and science of physical assessment and
diagnosis. This course is an intensive course and is equivalent to any physical assessment and
diagnosis course in a medical school curriculum. It provides foundational study in health,
wellness, and in pathology states. It takes us from the "normal" to the abnormal and uses a
"body systems" framework for content presentation.
Students will learn how to take a comprehensive health history. They will also learn how to
conduct a comprehensive physical assessment/examination. Each body system that is examined will
be done so in the context of the "normal" progressing to the most common manifestations and
findings in disease states. At the completion of this course, students will have a solid
foundation of skills and knowledge and will be able to conduct a proficient health history on
clients, as well as appropriate physical assessments. Students will also have a foundational
knowledge of many disease states and their manifestations and subjective symptoms.
TIME FRAME: This is a four-semester hour course. This course is allotted 10 weeks of time.
Students must complete all of the requirements for the course successfully by the end of the
10-week period. The first day of week one will begin the day that you register for the course,
or the day which you notify me that your text book(s) have arrived and you are ready to begin
your studies. Please be cognizant of the time frame. It is rare that extensions of time are
permitted, unless the student has good justification. Upon successful completion of this course,
students will be awarded 4 semester hours of credit.

EXAMINATIONS: There is one final examination for this course. The examination will be an
objective type test of multiple choice and true/false questions. It is an open book examination.
The final examination must be taken by the end of the 10th week in the course.
The examination is programmed and is located in the classroom for this course. The examination is
an "open book" objective type. Students will have 3 days to complete their exam, once they
access it from the classroom. To access the exams, you must send me an email at
dominick@canyoncollege.edu and request to have access to the exam.
I will then program your access in. You will receive an email back from me telling you that you
are now authorized to go ahead and access your exam. To access, you will come into the classroom,
click on testing, and click on the exam you are taking. You will need your User ID and PASS WORD
to access the exam. The exam will appear on your screen. Once you access the exam, you have 72
hours to submit your answers. The program provides me the date and exact time that you accessed
the exam. The program also notifies me of the exact date and time that you submit your answers.
Thus, the program is timing you. When you are ready, go back into the classroom and click in
your responses and then click submit. In a short time following you will receive the exam in your
email box with your computed score. You will also know what questions, if any, that you missed,
and what the correct answer is. I too receive this the copy of your exam and your score.
