Welcome to the Human Anatomy and Physiology introductory course for the Naturopathy PhD. Program by Canyon College.
At a time when modern technology, environmental pollution, bad eating habits and stress play an enormous role, the profession of the Naturopath gains increasing importance.
This area of specialty is growing all the time and many health care professionals, behavioral health practitioners and lay persons are using their skills to practice full or part time in this area. Many graduates of our program will have opportunities to teach and open their own Naturopathy practices. Obtaining the credential from a quality program is essential to capitalize on this career opportunity. You have made an excellent choice for your continuing education and skills. This course will assist in preparing you to begin your career as a practitioner.
This comprehensive course is developed to introduce a solid basic core foundation for Human Anatomy and Physiology to augment the Naturopathic field of endeavor so that a practitioner has a secure grounding in the structure and function of the human body. The ability to recognize deviations from health allows the professional to refer to Physicians as needed and to plan their care for their clients appropriately. The design of the program is such that any one can enroll in this course of study.
The course is designed to be completed over an 8 week period of time, presented in 8 sections. You are expected to take at least 1 quiz a week but you may also take the course at an accelerated rate.
COURSE OVERVIEW:
Anatomy and Physiology is covered through 4 main sections of this book reviewing not only the bodies systems individually but also the body through an understanding of its function as a whole, Internal communication, Intake of raw materials and elimination of waste, and how the body protects itself and survives.
Overall Course Objectives:
To prepare health care professionals, behavioral health specialists and lay persons to have the anatomy and physiology basic knowledge required to practice at a standard required by the current job and consumer market.
To understand and practice professionally with regards to high ethics and adherence to established standards of practice.
To prepare graduates to practice Naturopathy at basic, intermediate, and advanced levels of practice.
To provide graduates with college level credentials for this practice specialty.

I can be contacted by e-mail through my personal e-mail address above. I will usually respond within 24 hours. If I will be away for a longer period of time, I will post my return date on the Forum Board ahead of time .I will also be checking in at the Forum Board several times a week to answer any questions that have been posted there by students. Although I welcome any questions you have by email, please check the Forum Board before e-mailing me directly. Often a previous student has asked the same question and the answer is posted for all to see. The messages will stay on the Forum Board throughout your course. The Forum Board is also an excellent way to get feedback or to have questions answered by your fellow classmates. Please check it often.
You may be interested in the study of Naturopathy but differ in experience and background. While you are at the Forum Board, if you see a question that is in your area of expertise, or you just happen to know the answer, please share what you know. WEEKLY ASSIGNMENTS
Readings: Weekly Readings in the textbook.
Lectures: All Lectures are posted in the “Lectures” area in your classroom. There is one lecture per week containing a summary of readings and related websites
Study Sheets: Note--There are 8 study guides, one for each chapter, posted under “Assignment” in your classroom. The assignment is optional and is not to be turned in, but I strongly recommend that you complete the questions as you read the text. Ninety nine percent of the quizzes, midterm, and final exams will be questions taken from the study sheets..
Weekly Quizzes: You are required to take a weekly quiz consisting of 15-25 questions covering the weekly readings in the text. Quizzes are taken online via the Canyon College web site. Once you have registered for this program, you will receive instructions on accessing and taking the examinations. You'll get immediate feedback on your progress as you take your exams with a report automatically sent to your e-mail address.
Midterm: The midterm will consist of 50-60 multiple-choice questions covering the first four weeks.
Final: The final exam will consist of 50-60 multiple-choice questions covering the last four weeks of class.

GRADING
Weekly Quizzes: You are required to take 6 weekly quizzes consisting of 15-25 questions covering the weekly readings in the text. Quizzes are taken online via the Canyon College web site. You'll get immediate feedback on your progress as you take your exams with a report automatically sent to your e-mail address. Each quiz is worth 10 points. 10x6=60 points
Mid Term Exam and Final Exam
The mid-term will be posted in the Exam Room at the beginning of Week 4. The Final will be posted at the beginning of Week 8. You may only enter the Exam Room once and you have 2 hours to complete it. Once in a while a student may be knocked out in the middle of an exam. If this happens please e-mail me immediately. Each Exam is worth 20 points. 2x20=40 points.
Total 100 points
A = 90-100
B = 80-89
C = 70-79
D = 60-69
All Students are expected to earn a “B” grade or better.
