COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This module provides basic information about medical terminology, anatomy & physiology of the various body systems, levels of organization, and conditions/diseases in each body system. This course is purposely designed to and delivered in a UNIQUE way to better assist those going into the Medical Billing and Coding arena. It contains TIPS and HINTS for coders specifically. This course is a BASICS course and it is recommended that as you learn and grow as a medical biller/coder to other professional in the field, that you continue you education and even target specific specialties subject matter.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
Upon successful completion of the two courses (Medical Basics I and Medical Basics II), the student should be able to:
- Understand the format and design of basic medical terminology.
- Define and understand the body’s basic design and functions.
- Describe how tissues, organs, and body systems work together to carry on complex activities in the normal homeostasis process.
- Describe how tissues, organs, and body systems work together to try to achieve homeostasis when facing disease and ailments.
- Relate medical terminology with a particular area, system or process in the human
body.
TESTS/GRADES:
Students must successfully complete all assignments and tests. (Refer to Program Syllabus for Percentage Point/Grade Ranges.)

TEXTBOOK: Online Bookstore
This is "OPTIONAL." The course specifies the minimal terms, anatomy, physiology and disease processes and can be taken without any text. All assignments are in relation to the lessons, handouts and materials within the course; however, it is recommended that a Medical Terminology Book be purchased at some point if you are serious about getting into the medical profession at all. If you CHOOSE to purchase one this is the recommended. Chapters are listed that correspond to each lesson. Regardless, you are responsible to complete each assignment within the course.
