Course Objective: Upon completion of this course, the student will have a basic understanding of the field of psychology, briefly surveying the various areas in the field.

Course purpose: This course provides a survey of the following areas of psychology: introductory chapters about the scientific method and how it is used in psychology; a chapter on the physiology of the brain and psychology; sensation and perception; learning theory, cognition, memory, and thought; emotion; motivation; measuring and explaining mental ability; personality theory; and psychological disorders.

Method: The course will include: A. Assigned readings
B. E-mail correspondence one on one with the instructor.
C. Message board participation for the group and individual questions and discussions on various topics. Class room (chat room) discussions are also possible as needed.
D. Reading introductory materials prepared by instructor.
E. Midterm and final exam

The assignments are listed in an eight-week schedule, based on the projected time of completion. A student can work at his or her own pace, and complete the assignments at any time prior to the projected completion date.
