Course Objective:
Explores the challenges helping professionals face as they deal with stress in their workplace. Helps the helping professional to better understand burnout and how to effectively deal with it. Offers strategies that, if implemented, can begin to reduce the impact that stress has. Understand the theories as they relate to stress in the workplace. Identify how stress effects and is impacted by the individual, interpersonal relations and organizational elements. Utilize and critique readings related to professional stress. Apply the information gained from the readings and discussion in the student’s current work situation.

Course Requirements:
There will be two exams given in this course, one a Midterm exam and the other a Final Exam. Each exam will be essay and will focus on the material outlined in the textbook. The exams are expected to be completed no later than the last day of the week on week 4 and week 7 respectively. Writing assignments are essentially the student emailing the instructor questions either about the readings, their work on the term paper or whatever may be of interest to the student in this topic area. The student and instructor will then engage in an email exchange discussing the question in greater depth.

First Exam - 30%
Second Exam - 30%
Term Paper – 30%
Written Assignments - 10%

91 - 100%
81 - 90%
71 - 80%
61 - 70%
