Course Objective:
Upon completion of this course the professional/student will be able to define and utilize Cinema Therapy. This is a useful method of counseling clients or teaching students. Dr. Gary Solomon, the Motions Picture Doctor”, has developed this technique in a way that can be very useful in many ways and for many people-individuals, groups, families, etc.

This method will also be an advantageous for resistant clients and clients who are in denial. Using this method will assist in the client becoming active in their own therapy and helping them toward recognizing and identifying behaviors.

Course Purpose:
This course is to give professionals/students an additional methodology which can be used with most clients and students in a way to teach and demonstrate problems/behaviors in a non-threatening manner. Cinema Therapy can be used in the therapy area or have the clients watch the movie at home. This therapy is apt to appeal to the client in a way that is healthy and safe enabling them to be actively involved with the learning or identifying behaviors and consequences.

Another advantage is that this can be done in the home. By watching the movie in the home it takes save additional time when with the professional. This will free up time allowing for you and the client/student to discuss the movie, behaviors, and consequences.

This technique is also reasonably priced and affordable to most, if not all, clients and students. It is easy to use. The professional would discuss the movie with the client/student prior to having it watched in case it may bring up feelings with could be frightening or negative on the “watcher”before recommending the movie. It may be necessary to be with the person. As the professional you need to be aware of your client.

I find this helps me to stay focused, however you do not have to use it. You may use outline form or any method which will clearly show each section and your responses to it.
