To prepare students in graduate level counseling and psychology curriculums to thoroughly understand the dynamics of death, dying, bereavement, and grief to the extent that this knowledge can be applied in practical situations with clients engaged in the therapeutic process. Upon completion of this course, students will have the understanding to effectively work with dying and bereaved clients and to provide these clients with therapy as well as with educational and support resources.

Core Requirements
There will be two exams given in this course, one a Midterm exam and the other a Final Exam. Each exam will be essay and will focus on the material outlined in the textbook. The exams are expected to be completed no later than the last day of the week on week 4 and week 8 respectively.
Exam One will be a Midterm exam covers the Bryant-Jefferies book and should be completed no later than the end of the 4th week after starting the course.
Exam Two will be a Final exam covering the Worden book and should be completed no later than the end of the 10th week after starting the course.
Writing assignments are essentially the student emailing the instructor questions either about the readings, their work on the term paper or whatever may be of interest to the student in this topic area. The student and instructor will then engage in an email exchange discussing the question in greater depth.
