Welcome to PY532!

Course Objective:

Upon completion of this course the student will demonstrate an understanding of the types of issues a mental health professional may encounter when working with offenders. Two areas of emphasis are the pitfalls in the Identification of disorders and the student’s analysis of his/her view on the reasons and ways people make changes. Students will have a working knowledge of motivational interviewing as an effective paradigm from which to work with offenders. Upon completion of the course the student will demonstrate knowledge of the application of motivational interviewing with at least one special offender population.

Grading:

The course grading will be based on responses to weekly discussion questions, a quiz, a midterm exam, a final exam and a paper. The points will be distributed as follow.
