Goals
  1. The student will be able to describe how reflexology as a modality relates to the scope of nursing practice.
  2. The student will be able to define reflexology,including the subtle anatomy and physiology of reflexology theory base.
  3. The student will be able to perform reflexology competently and confidently.
  4. The student will be able to create a reflexology wellness plan for a client.

Module 1 - History of massage therapy within the history of nursing

Module 2 - Reflexology definition and history

  1. Describe how reflexology, as a form of massage therapy, relates to the practice of nursing
  2. Define reflexology.
  3. List the uses of reflexology.
  4. List the side effects of reflexology.
Module 3 - Reflexology Theory Base(dermatomes,subtle energy),uses

Assignments - Read through module lecture.

  2. How does the concept of dermatome relate to the concept of subtle energy?
  3. How does reflexology help the client to feel better?
Module 4 - Method accessory techniques(magnets,tape seeds) and summary

Assignments - Read through module lecture. Perform at least 5 full reflexology sessions on yourself or yourself and friends/family.

With these reflexology sessions, you fulfill your 5 hours of practicum time.

  1. Describe your responses to the sessions and, as needed, describe your friends/family member’s responses to the sessions.
  2. How do the magnets and tape seeds work to increase the effectiveness of reflexology sessions?
Final Exam-Test on modules 1-4-short answer and essay below

  2. How has massage therapy related to nursing practice?
  3. How can reflexology relate to nursing practice?
  4. What happens during a reflexology session? What happens during a course of reflexology? Please include reflexology theory base as it explains the client's response to the sessions in your answer.
  5. What are accessory techniques to reflexology and how do you recommend the client use them?
  6. In what settings can you envision reflexology being utilized for client wellness?
  7. A client presents to you in the holistic clinic setting with complaints of alternating diarrhea and constipation. What is your wellness plan for this client?
    History
    Refer to medical provider for tests and medical evaluation, unless you can offer this option in your setting.
    Provide reflexology sessions with special attention to the intestinal area of the feet,ears, hands, scalp.
    Recommend accessory techniques to strengthen the effects of the reflexology sessions.
