Course Objective:
Upon completion of this course the students will have an understanding of social work principles, ideals, beliefs;
social work practice, services, challenges and the development, enrichment and future of social work.
Course Purpose:
The student will gain understanding and a broad based foundation of social work. Including services, skill, values,
types of social work and social work roles within communities and with the people they serve. Students will look at
the challenges and goals in the social work profession.
Method: Introduction to Social Work will include:
Reading assignments
E-mail correspondence one-on-one with the instructor as needed during the course
Exams - midterm and final
A "self" paper, applying course information to professional goals.
There is a possible total of 80 points. Your final grade is the average of the points earned divided by the total points
possible. Any extra credit points must be requested from the instructor and will only be granted to students with B
level points at the time of request.
