Course Objective:
This course studies the challenges and opportunities that exist in intervening in the life of substance abusers in various settings include the courts, medical clinics, etc. Explores the impact of substance abuse on the family. Examines strategies and the implications of training for and following through with a family intervention. Finally, considers how treatment interventions can be tailored to the client’s stage of change.

Course Requirements:
There will be three exams given in this course. The exams are not cumulative. Each exam covers the material in the textbook and follows the schedule noted below: Writing assignments essentially involves the student emailing the instructor up to 3 questions each of the 8 weeks. The questions can cover the materials they are reading or the student can bring in issues or concerns related to the course materials but may not specifically be covered in the course materials.

First Exam - 30%
Second Exam - 30%
Final Exam – 30%
Written Assignments - 10%

81 - 90%
71 - 80%
61 - 70%
