Research Insights is a research consulting organization with an expertise in cross-cultural research methodology, violence, and mental health issues. Specific projects have included: dating violence in ethnic minority communities, war trauma and community violence with immigrant and refugee populations, effectiveness of interventions with Asian youth, family violence in immigrant communities, and cross-cultural interventions with trauma survivors.

Co-Founder, E-Research E-mail Newsletter
An e-mail newsletter developed to create a forum for practitioners and researchers to share cross-cultural mental health and research issues. Issues have focused on violence, cross-cultural mental health and health issues, women's issues, etc. Readership includes over 1000 readers from diverse social science disciplines.

Racism and Mental Health Outcomes Study. Survey and focus group design to examine perceived racism, types of racism, coping strategies, and mental health effects in ethnic minority students.

Researcher. Cross-Cultural Bereavement Study. Qualitative research study using focus groups with Asian American and African American service providers and bereaved individuals to examine how cultural values affect the bereavement process.

Coordinating a research study with Professor Pauline Agbayani-Siewert. Responsible for questionnaire development, sampling, and data collection, entry, and analyses. Supervise MSW students, undergraduate interns, and volunteers.

Research internship supervised by Professor Pauline Agbayani-Siewert. Designed research pilot study examining perceptions of and attitudes toward domestic violence in the Chinese community in Los Angeles. Developed telephone survey instrument, interviewed service providers, developed interviewing training manuals, recruited and trained bilingual interviewers and translators, supervised personnel, implemented sample design, recruited and interviewed respondents, and entered, cleaned, and analyzed data.

"Biosocial Aspects of Depression and Attention Deficit Disorder." A National Institute of Mental Health research study directed by Dr. Dennis Cantwell and Dr. Joan Asarno. Responsibilities included conducting semi-structured psychiatric and family interviews, diagnosing, preparing genograms and pedigrees, co-rating interview tapes to establish inter-rater reliability, and writing clinical reports.

Clinical Program Analyst. Fordham-Tremont Community Mental Health Center, Bronx, NY
Coordinated Grand Rounds, in-service training, and student field placements; wrote grants and proposals; conducted needs assessments and quality assurance audits; designed questionnaire, assisted in writing policy and procedure manuals; and assisted in planning and implementing clinical programs and modules. Assisted in developing a Family Violence Unit which entailed designing, developing, and implementing the Unit's policy and procedure manuals, psychoeducational modules and staff development and training materials.

Conducted psychoeducational groups for patients and families and a group for patients revolving around discharge. Conducted a one year qualitative research study on the mourning process in families with schizophrenics. Other research activities included evaluation of the multiple family groups and Camberwell Family Interviews.

Worked in a mental health clinic in a male jail facility. Provided assessments, crisis intervention, suicide management, and individual counseling. Facilitated a substance abuse group and assisted in triage on the solitary confinement unit. Designed and implemented a pilot study to collect demographic and DSMIII-R diagnostic data on inmates in the psychiatric ward of the jail site.
